Marine Resources

Marine Resources Goal #1: To maintain and improve the water quality in Lincolnville’s coastal waters. It is important to maintain the quality of marine waters in Lincolnville for the benefit of Lincolnville’s commercial and recreational users.

Implementation Strategies:

Encourage the State Dept. of Marine Resources to start water quality testing in tidal area of Lincolnville with the goal of designating part of the area as a shellfish resource. (Harbor Committee - May, 1993)

Encourage the local capability of mitigating any potential spill training, material such as containment barriers, proximity suits, etc. (DEP, Federal Emerg FE MA, USN - Ongoing)

Marine Resources Goal #2: Annually review existing user fees and main-tenance costs of facilities, and those of surrounding communities.

Implementation Strategies:

Review annually user fees and maintenance costs of the harbor facilities. Adjust as necessary. (Harbor Committee - May, 1993)

Develop a capital improvement plan and start a reserve fund for harbor improvements such as additional floats, foot ramps and the launching ramp. Any excess user fees should be placed in this account. (Harbor Committee - May 1993)

Marine Resources Goal #3: To improve the land-based support facilities at the beach area. Adequate shorefront facilities at Lincolnville Beach such as parking, trash removal and fresh water are important to the long-term viability of this marine facility.

Implementation Strategies:

Develop a long range-plan for parking that will adequately accommodate the recreational and commercial users of the harbor facilities. (Harbor and Recreation Committees, MDOT - May 1994)

In cooperation with the state, encourage a system for trash can pick up in the immediate vicinity of the state and harbor facilities. (Harbor and Recreation Committees and MDOT - May 1994)

Develop a plan to provide fresh water to the floats. (Harbor Committee, Recreation Committee)

Marine Resources Goal #4: To encourage the location of marine-related businesses in the Harbor District that are compatible with the existing recreational and commercial uses in the area. The addition of appropriate marine-related businesses to the harbor district would improve the economic vitality of the beach area.

Implementation strategy:

Encourage the Economic Development Committee to search for appropriate businesses. (Selectmen, Town Administrator - Ongoing)
