Transportation Goal #1: To maintain and improve the existing system of local roadways.I

Implementation Strategies:

Encourage the continued development of the five-year road maintenance and repair plan. (Town Administrator & Road Commissioner - ongoing)

Site Plan Review should include impact on existing roads and intersections. (Land Use Committee - December, 1993)

Transportation Goal #2: To maintain Rts. 1, 52, 173 and 235 as safe, efficient and adequate regional arterial routes without destroying the unique rural historic and scenic character of the town through which they pass.

Implementation Strategies:

Develop appropriate performance standards for new development along each of these routes which will ensure that those roads retain their capacity to handle traffic. (Land Use Committee, Planning Board - Ongoing)

Encourage the State to maintain the existing Route 1 ROW and road width. Improve the road bed (sub-base, gravel and pavement) as necessary to maintain safety, the road’s capacity to handle traffic effectively, and improve maintenance. (Selectmen, MDOT - Ongoing)

Discourage the creation of any new State roads in Lincolnville. (Selectmen, MDOT - Ongoing)

Encourage the State to treat the Duck Trap Village area of Route 1 as the historic village area it is. The speed limit in that area should be reduced. (Selectmen, MDOT - Ongoing)

Encourage the State to repair and maintain Duck Trap Bridge. If major improvements are necessary to the bridge, the State should build a new deck on the existing bridge, while maintaining the bridge’s integrity. (Selectmen, MDOT-ongoing)

Encourage the State to reduce the speed limit through the Beach area for pedestrian safety. (Selectmen, MDOT-ongoing)

Encourage the State to enforce speed and weight limits on State roads in Lincolnville. (Selectmen, MDOT-ongoing)

Encourage the State to improve the roadbeds of Routes 52, 173, and 235 within their current widths to improve their ability to handle traffic, and to serve as effective alternate routes to Route 1. (Selectmen, MDOT-ongoing)

Encourage the State to correct the dangerous intersections involving the four State routes. (Selectmen, MDOT-ongoing)
