Payment of an excise tax is required on all vehicles in the town of residence BEFORE registration.

We do not quote excise tax figures over the phone.

In order to renew your vehicle registration, we need the previous registration, proof of insurance, and current mileage.

The State of Maine does not send reminder notices for renewals...don't forget to also check your inspection sticker each year.

For a new registration, we need a bill of sale (from dealer or private individual); a completed sales tax form if private sale (form obtained at Town Office); the seller's title signed over to you if a private sale (for vehicles 1995 and newer); a Maine title application if vehicle is 1995 or newer (form obtained at the Town Office if private sale); the previous registration of plates being transferred to new vehicle, if applicable; proof of insurance; and current mileage.  If it is a brand new vehicle, we also need the Monroney Label (window sticker).

The State of Maine requires an original signature of the registrant for all new registrations.
