Historical Information
The Town of Lincolnville, originally known as the Plantation of Canaan and Ducktrap, was settled in 1770 by Nathan Knight and family. Nathan Knight, Jr., was born in the family's log hut on November 24, 1776. Eventually, Nathan Knight, Jr., married Lydia Sweetland (from Waldoboro) and they were blessed with nine children. Knight decendents have been active in Town affairs for decades and decendents still live in Lincolnville to this day. Form of Government
The Town of Lincolnville has a Board of Selectmen/Town Administrator/Town Meeting form of government.
Lincolnville's Annual Town Meeting is held in June each year. The written ballot election is held the same day as the June State election (the second Tuesday in June); polls are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and are located in the gymnasium at Lincolnville Central School, 523 Hope Road. The open portion of Town Meeting is conducted within seven days of Election Day with the date, time and location of the meeting set by the Board of Selectmen.
The population of Lincolnville, based on the 2020 U. S. Census, is 2,312.
