The Board of Selectmen is legally responsible for the function of the local government. The Emergency Management (EM) Director, appointed by the Board of Selectmen, is responsible to the Board of Selectmen for coordinating disaster response activities, requesting resources from mutual aid partners and from the County, and for compiling disaster information. Any one of the Selectmen or the EM Director may activate the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) or initiate the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) if they determine that the disaster situation warrants the activation.
